Flame Stitch Pin Cushion
Pincushion Instructions
I hadn’t intended to do any of the Frostings Box designs, because I was intending to keep all the threads for my own purposes, but I’ve not been able to settle to anything this summer. I lost my “Dreams of Amarna” notebook (and found it again!), and although I have several pieces I want to do for it, I have no idea how I want to do them!
So I’ve been starting lots of little things to do in the intervals of the next major project.
Test Stitching
I’m determined not to buy anything for these projects, so I fished out a random piece of linen, and then the next thing was to discover how many threads to use. The instructions said four strands of Soie de Paris, but since I have no idea where the linen came from or what count it was, I thought the choice was worth testing. The left section is in two strands and the right is four.
Four it is, then!
Colour Schemes
The next decision was colour scheme. As it happens, I don’t have the colours specified, so I decided to play around until I had something that looked interesting.
I’ve decided to go for green and brown.
Good choices! Its always fun to try to work within the parameters of what you have on hand. Heaven knows, we all have a lot of ‘stuff’ on hand!!
That sounds like a wonderful color palette.
Flame stitch is very restful when you don’t want to have to concentrate too hard. And this is a suitably small piece so it won’t get boring before it’s finished. Those families of colours in the silk look very inviting – I’d be wanting to play with them if they were mine.
Isn’t it good when you can find what you need in your stash!!
Over never stitched flame stitch before – I will hunt out some instructions. I love your idea of smaller projects in the summer – it sounds perfect!
What a relief you found that notebook!
Good for you refusing to buy anything! That’s my determination too – as you know. I’m finding that I’m so much more inspired by my stash after making that decision and decluttering than I ever used to be when I was buying and accumulating – i.e. not appreciating what I had!
It’s so good to use what you already have instead of buying more! I’ve been going through all of my threads and bringing what I no longer want to the various groups I am in. The little pincushion will be cute.
Great to use what you have – I used to love bargello and have a set of cushions I made years ago but havn’t done any for some time. Enjoy your project – I always found ut very relaxing. xx

I love that little pin cushion and I covert those threads. Sometimes we need to have small achievable projects on hand, just to give us a boost to see them finished. Especially when there is a big project that goes on and on in the wings.
